ILO Update: Second Group of Participating Families Complete New Futures Initiative™ Training
Thursday, June 11th, 2015
Here at M&L Special Needs Planning, LLC, we make it our goal to help our clients, family members and friends with disability build successful, happy, fulfilling futures for themselves and their family members. We aim to accomplish this goal by providing a comprehensive set of financial services aimed at setting and reaching goals that will lead to financially secure futures, and also by providing life planning services that are designed to provide the tools and resources that our clients need to create full lives for themselves.
Over the last two years we have expanded our services (and our focus) to include providing services aimed at helping families with a very integral part of living independent, full lives – housing! We began by designing, creating, and launching our Independent Living Program and Housing Project, an online database of special needs housing information, resources, etc. (Note: for more information on this database, or to subscribe, please click here). We have also taken this interest in housing one large step further by jumping headfirst into special needs housing creation and development.
In fact, M&L is currently involved in a number of special needs housing developing projects in Maryland and Washington, D.C., and – as you may know – we are currently working very hard at establishing our housing non-profit, Integrated Living Opportunities (ILO), as a leader in the development and support of sustainable, community-based integrated housing for individuals with disability. We are very proud to say that we have been making incredible progress the goals that we have set for ILO – please join us as we share with you the latest developments!
Round 2 of the Second New Futures Initiative™ training complete!!
Integrated Living Opportunities is, above all, a facilitator. One of ILO’s main goals is to bring family groups together to establish integrated, sustainable and inclusive community based housing through the use of community partnerships. As a result, all ILO participating families are required to complete Center for Independent Futures’ New Futures Initiative™ training program, a program that is designed to provide the tools and resources necessary to accomplish this goal. To learn more about New Futures Initiative™ training, please click here.
Earlier this year, a second group of participating families committed to joining ILO and taking part in the New Futures Initiative™ training session. This past weekend, the group completed the training program by attending Phase II (days three and four) of the program, during which CIF staff travelled from Evanston, Illinois to the community in which the housing is being developed – in this case, Washington, D.C./Maryland. During this second part of the training program, CIF’s housing experts guided participants towards the final steps of creating housing and a full life for their family members with special needs; among the topics covered were identifying and developing support networks, developing criteria for support partners, and covering details related to the actual moving out process, such as planning and living skills inventories, etc. If you are interested in learning more about the New Futures Initiative™ training, please click here to access archived blog topics, or read CIF’s article on the recent training session with ILO.
We would like to take a moment to congratulate these participating families on their accomplishment, and to wish them every success as they take the next steps towards building housing for their loved one with special needs. Please stay tuned to the blog for progress updates as these pfs move forward, with the support of ILO!
