As we are about half way through the first month of 2013, I am very excited to tell you all about the different events M&L Special Needs Planning has scheduled for the new year.

First of all, we have a series of very informative workshops lined up to take place over the coming winter months. Our series begins with Navigating the Financial World of the Family with Special Needs, which will take place January 23rd, from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. at the DC Health Center. This workshop is designed to provide you with a full understanding of the unique challenges of financial planning for the present and future needs of individuals with special needs. Specifically, this presentation focuses on the differences between traditional and special needs financial planning. Throughout the workshop we cover important topics such as legal and estate issues, guardianship, Special Needs Trust, and letters of intent. Other workshops currently scheduled include A Roadmap for Transitioning Planning & a Discussion of Post-Secondary Options, Understanding SSI/Medicaid & SSDI/Medicare, and Understanding Estate Planning for a Family with Special Needs. For a complete list of scheduled workshops, dates, times and locations, please click here. To register for these free workshops, please visit the calendar, clink on the workshop you wish to attend  and complete the registration form.

As well, M&L Special Needs Planning will be participating as an exhibitor in Ivymount’s Special Needs Resource Fair. This event will be held February 23rd, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m at Ivymount School.  Exhibitors include organizations, companies or private providers which offer services to persons with special needs. This fair, which is open to the public, is the first of its kind to be held at Ivymount School. We are very proud to be a part of such an event, and we hope to see you there! For more information, please visit Ivymount’s website, www.ivymount.org or contact mwhelan@ivymount.org.

Last, but certainly not least, we are also working on a project which is near and dear to my heart – a comprehensive list of the more than 150 different housing/independent living programs from across the country. This report will be accessible through our website, specialneedsplanning.net, and consumers will have easy access to the programs available in their state. We will release more details as we draw closer to the launch date.

Here at M&L Special Needs Planning, we take pride being able to provide necessary information and quality services to those who require help in planning for a family member with special needs. We work with families all over the country, so please contact us to learn how we can partner together.  We are more than willing to travel, and would welcome the opportunity to present one of our workshops at your venue.

As always, if you have any questions regarding financial or life planning for yourself or your family, please contact me at 202-248-7113 (toll free 855-344-9771) or send me an email at maedi@specialneedsplanning.net. Together, we can make 2013 our best year yet!
